Governance isn’t optional anymore.

By Nikki Mehrpoo, JD, AIWC, AIMWC

Founder, The MedLegal Professor™ | AI Legal Governance Strategist | Former Workers’ Compensation Judge

If you’re licensed, and if you’re documenting anything with AI, you must govern first.

This isn't a future warning; it's a statement about our current reality, a non-negotiable standard for every professional whose work carries real-world consequences.

Here’s the truth:

AI is already touching client files, patient records, claims notes, and case summaries.

Sometimes directly. Often silently.

And when something goes wrong, our license is what’s on the line.

Because of this, I've spent my time not waiting for regulators to catch up, but building a framework to meet the standards we are already bound to as licensed professionals.

A Framework Built for Today's Standards

I didn’t wait for regulators to catch up. I built a governance framework that meets the standards we’re already bound to—from the ABA and AMA to NAIC, HIPAA, and even the EU AI Act.

This is not speculative. It is not experimental. It is smart legal scaffolding for the technology that’s already deeply embedded in our workflows. We need governance that:

  • Flags hidden risks

  • Documents decisions

  • Protects us before enforcement shows up

This is precisely what the EEE AI Protocol™ is designed to provide.

The EEE AI Protocol™

The EEE AI Protocol™ is a real-world, lifecycle-based standard I created to keep AI legally accountable in regulated workflows. It provides the structure necessary to lead with confidence.

My Final Word

If we don’t govern it, we’re endorsing it. And if it’s not documented, it’s not defensible. The time for waiting is over; the time for governance is now.
