What My Father Gave Up, and What I’m Now Building With AI + HI™

Five years ago, my niece had just wrapped up her undergrad at UCLA. Brilliant, ambitious, and standing at the edge of a life-defining decision. And as the Judge in the family, the geeky, roadmap-loving aunt who lives for a good strategy session, I did what I’ve always done: I pulled out my laptop, opened three browsers, and said, “Let’s build a plan.”

We spent hours together. Researching. Listing LSAT dates. Weighing internships. Tracking every last deadline. It was personal. It was powerful. And it worked. But it took time. A lot of it. The plan we built was rooted in something deeper than just career ambition.

A Legacy Built on Sacrifice

Here’s what mattered most:

She didn’t choose law school just because it was a logical next step. She chose it because of my father, her grandfather, and the standards he instilled in all of us. Standards that echo through every Mehrpoo generation.

Education. Discipline. Purpose.

That’s what we were raised on. And that foundation came at a price none of us fully understood, until later.

My parents gave everything to build that foundation.

In 1980, they fled Iran, not because they were running from failure, but from a future that no longer honored their values. My father left behind a life most people only dream of. A respected civil engineer whose work helped shape public infrastructure and national planning. He was needed. Trusted. Admired.

And he gave it all up. For us.

Not symbolically. Literally.

His identity. His career. His pride. His language. His recognition. All surrendered for a better life for his children.

What I didn’t see until years later, what hit me hardest after his passing, was the silent weight he carried. The grief beneath his sacrifice. The anger that never left him. The pride he swallowed. Every single day.

That truth lives in my bones now. It humbles me. It haunts me.

And it fuels everything I build.

From Hours of Labor to Minutes of Legacy

That understanding now fuels everything I do, especially as the next generation stands at that same crossroads.

Fast forward to today: My son and my nephew are now standing at that same edge. Two more future Jacobson/Mehrpoo leaders. Two more hearts I will pour everything into.

This time, I still showed up with love, with clarity, and with a full plan. But something had changed.

In under five minutes, I used a custom prompt I had written myself, one shaped by decades of experience as a courtroom leader, tech architect, legal strategist, and obsessive planner.

Because my father didn’t give up everything so I could follow a path.
